We had a great warm up, we felt rested and ready to race. We were all feeling strong, powerful and in control.
The team was very relaxed and it dawned on me again... your existence is not based on your performance and although there were thousands of people watching and SO much time and effort went into this, it did not make me anything better or bigger than anyone else! I was just using my God given talents and it felt like another day in the office.
As our nose went into the starting block I got a butterflies in my tummy, then I heard Daw whistle and I suddenly relaxed and knew that all I had to do, was paddle with my best technique, remember ALL the things we practiced in training and give it 110%, so that is what we all did.
We had a great start and were up there with the Chinese (which was a first for us!) I knew that the race was going to be close. Jen called a "hup" after about 250m and we added more power that I didnt think I had... Then about 50m before the line she shouted "HUP!" again... (that means add more power) and I looked up, saw the line was right there and put in the hardest strokes ever. The last 3 strokes I closed my eyes (OR I was grimacing so much that I couldnt see) and pushed the boat over the line with all my might!
It it great to be part of a team of girls that I know would go to the end of the earth for each other... we have been through a lot together... and through all of it have had to pull together and made it happen...
So now we hold thumbs for Friday!
Bridge and Mich and racing K2 today and Jen K1. Shaun has his K1 500m today and Calvin 500m too.
I will get some pics from our physio later today and try and put them up tonight!
Thanks for the support and cheering... It was so great to have our families here too, we had the biggest support crew ever!
For those of you who were wondering, the broken wrist of Jan isn't stopping her from a great time here in Beijing, she is still rocking the town!
PS. The Pic attached is me, Mich, a random dude and BOLT, the guy who dominated the 100m final!
